A pregnancy ultrasound scan is done to evaluate the development of the baby, the overall health and growth, and to check if there are any potential issues or medical conditions with the pregnancy.  It is used to check the growth of the fetus and position, fetal movement, fetal heart rate, check amniotic fluid, check for any congenital conditions in the baby.

Pregnancy scans can be performed in two ways, transvaginal ultrasound or abdominal ultrasound.  In transvaginal ultrasound, the device is placed inside the vaginal canal and in abdominal ultrasound the device is placed on the skin on the abdomen.
