Ultrasound Scan (Sonography) available at Keyhole Clinic. Ultrasound, also known as Sonography, is an imaging test and it uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of soft tissues, organs and other structures inside the body.  An ultrasound may be ordered by the healthcare provider for diagnostic purposes or prior to undergoing certain procedures for ultrasound guidance.  Ultrasound scan may also be done during pregnancy (prenatal ultrasound) to test the development of the baby.

Pregnancy Scan (Prenatal Ultrasound)

A pregnancy ultrasound scan is done to evaluate the development of the baby, the overall health and growth, and to check if there are any potential issues or medical conditions with the pregnancy.  It is used to check the growth of the fetus and position, fetal movement, fetal heart rate, check amniotic fluid, check for any congenital conditions in the baby.

Pregnancy scans can be performed in two ways, transvaginal ultrasound or abdominal ultrasound.  In transvaginal ultrasound, the device is placed inside the vaginal canal and in abdominal ultrasound the device is placed on the skin on the abdomen.

Other Diagnostic Ultrasounds

Abdominal Ultrasound – It is performed to diagnose any conditions related to the abdomen, like hernia, cancers of the stomach, intestine, etc.  Dr. R. Padmakumar and Dr. Madhukara Pai are expert Laparoscopic surgeons and performs surgeries related to the stomach, intestines, hernia, etc

Thyroid Ultrasound – Thyroid imaging may be ordered by the doctor to measure the size of the thyroid and to check whether there are any nodules or lesions in the gland or for thyroid cancer.  Dr. G Dhananjayan is a thyroid specialist at Keyhole Clinic and Dr. R. Kidney Ultrasound (Renal Ultrasound) – This may be done to assess the kidneys to detect for any tumors of the kidneys, any cysts or obstructions of the ureter.  Dr. Datson George P is Senior Consultant Urologist offering consultations at Keyhole Clinic.

Breast Scan – Also called Sonomammography is used to identify any breast lumps.

Pelvic Ultrasound – To look at the organs in the pelvic area like the urinary bladder, prostate, rectum, ovaries, uterus, etc.
